The town markets, properly explained
The most repeated question at the front desk, after “what time does the pool open?”, is “which market do you recommend?”. Here’s the long answer, with days and times.
Tuesday is the big one. Orchard fruit that has never seen a cold room, cooperative olive oil (bring a jug, it pays off) and the pickle stall we’ve mentioned more than once. Park on the threshing ground at the town entrance and walk five minutes: in July you don’t drive in.
Thursday belongs to the small town. Half the stalls, twice the calm. The wood-fired bakery on the square pulls its second batch at 9:30; the tomato coca disappears in twenty minutes — you’ve been warned.
Saturday brings a second-hand market on the harbour esplanade. More stroll than shopping, but surprises happen: last year a Dutch guest went home with a 1970s army canvas that now shades his usual pitch.
General rule: before ten. By eleven it’s a different thing — more people, less tomato coca.
